The raised terrace is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between two Richmond talents:
McKinnon and Harris and Janie Molster Designs.
The seating area is anchored by McKinnon & Harris’s Bastille Collection sofa and chairs, a line inspired by the historic Bastille Key gifted to President George Washington by the Marquis de Lafayette following the French Revolution.
Featured in the space are woven swivel chairs by Summer Classics and a timeless cabana-striped umbrella by Business and Pleasure Co., adding both comfort and visual rhythm.
While known for bold interiors, the Molster team embraced a more subdued outdoor palette to harmonize with the surrounding landscape. With the terrace evoking the feeling of a treehouse, shades of green were selected for the primary furnishings, complemented by rich texture through a natural stone cocktail table and woven accents.
A cheerful dining area introduces a lively contrast, anchored by a colorful umbrella and layered with spring-inspired fabrics and accessories.
Behind the sofa, a commissioned sculpture by Richmond artist Greg Holzgrefe adds an artistic focal point and brings a sense of human scale to this outdoor “room.” Lush container plantings by Gilded Lily Designs complete the space, enhancing its connection to the natural surroundings.
